THE DESKTOP WALLPAPER PROJECT: A TRIBUTE TO STEVE JOBS BY JON CONTINO

During a lull in dinner last night, I checked Twitter to see what was going on, to read what people were saying about Steve Jobs. As I flicked the screen of my iPhone I noticed that my buddy Jon Contino had tweeted “Steve” and then a link. I was curious, so I clicked and I saw the image you see above, a fitting tribute from I guy I respect to a man we both respect. There isn’t a lot to say, only that I wanted to share this because I thought it was touching and well done. It comes in desktop sizes, and of course, iPhone and iPad sizes as well. A big thanks to Jon for sending these to me late last night.

Fashion photographer Jacques Olivar seems to understand the plight of the modern man. Never quite content with where we are and always longing for something better, we seek to escape our troubled lives. With beautiful pops of color and models that look like they could be Milla Jovovich’s alien sisters, Oliver creates intriguing stories that are only enhanced by the strong styling. In fact, you’re often left wondering if you’re looking at a still shot of a movie, where the hero or heroine is caught in between worlds, carefully contemplating a life changing choice.

“TOMS” Newest product in the “One For One” Movement was unveiled at 10 A.M. today! The movement has spread from more than just shoes! Everyone knows that with TOMS, when you purchase a pair of shoes, they give one away to a child in need. This is not news. However, the idea of “giving sight” is TOMS newest way to help our friends in the third world countries. With movements like this it is hard to find something negative here, which is why when it comes to their cause I am all for it… BUT, The stylings of this new product by TOMS is absurdly Lazy and unoriginal. I say this because c’mon lets paint stripes on “Wayfarers” and “Aviators” and they’ll sell like Hot Cakes! Which I’m sure will be true with these because anything TOMS makes turns into gold to the hipsters out there! But let’s be real here, how much thought went into these? 

Just to clarify I am NOT talking down on wayfarers or aviators because they are timeless fashion icons when it comes to eye ware, but when new brands are adding these to there collection daily if not more often than that? I think it’s time we start becoming original!

To close this out I want to be Redundant in saying that I still—and have for years—support the TOMS cause. I Own 3 pairs of TOMS shoes myself and I think the company as a whole is doing great things, but as the fashion editor I have to look at these from a fashion critic’s point of view which is where the negative segments of this post come from.
